A Catholic priest rebuts Quechua beliefs, 1649

The Inka erred in many things, and your philosophers and historians were likewise in error because they lacked books to know the history of the world since its beginnings. Christians know this history because we have books. In these books, by the will of God, are the words of the Prophets so that mankind should know its past. In another sermon, I shall tell you how, if God had not taught us that this world had a beginning, we would not know so for certain. The apostle Saint Paul taught us this in a sermon that he preached in Areopagus, saying: "Deus feit ex uno omne genus hominum inhabitare super universam faciem terrae." Heed these words of the apostle, children: "Omne genus hominum." This means that all kinds of men, white, black, from whatever nation that lives in the world, be they Christian, Moors, Turks, heretics, Indians from any ayllu, Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans, or any of the men of this earth, all have but one origin and pacarina, our first parents, Adam and Eve. Just as all light of the day has its origins in the sun, and all the water that flows in the earth springs from the same source, thus in the same way, all mankind comes from our first parents, Adam and Eve, because they were the source from which all men sprang...
